Julien Carlier is an artist in companionship at the Théâtre de Liège and is accompanied by the Grand Studio.

This show was created in February 2024 at Théâtre de Liège.
"Our initial sources of inspiration were images of grandiose landscapes, within which one could discern the presence of individuals at different scales: nomads, climbers overlooking cliffs, or elusive silhouettes."

Through PAYSAGE, the focus is on the role of the human in the world and the paths they carve. Julien Carlier places at the core of his project the dialogue between the composition of spaces, linked to his practice of photography, and the work on the plasticity of bodies in motion. This body/space relationship is also expressed through ideas of framing, image composition, perspectives, and the question of the audience's distance from the action.

The artistic approach draws from concrete experiences of walking and observing landscapes, resulting in a form of abstraction that is centered on the bodies. The gestures, repeated tirelessly by the performers, immerse them in a collective emotion. Through the concept of walking together - side by side, in single file, or scattered - the dance also explores the role of the group that creates a common foundation, a living architecture in constant motion. At the heart of this exploration are also the notions of trial and self-overcoming, giving rise to a blend of strength and fragility.
